Boxing Hall of Fame Weekend Brawl
 Manfredy and Bailey

Oneida Nation Homelands – It was another exciting night of boxing at the Turning Stone Casino in Verona, NY.  As part of the International Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Weekend over 50 fighters and boxing celebrities that included Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Ken Norton, Christy Martin, Earnie Shavers, Iran Barkley, Terry Norris, Ricardo Lopez, Marlon Starling, Aaron Pryor, Jimmy Ellis as well as many others were in attendance.

Amy “Red Dog” Burton (4-2-1) of Syracuse opened up the night with an impressive victory over Bonnie Weary (3-4) of Cleveland, Ohio.  Amy dominated a four-round Welterweight bout and sent Weary to the canvas early in the first round.  Amy continued her domination through the first three rounds, though appeared to tire in the fourth.  Weary fought back in the final round but it was far from enough. Burton was awarded the fight in a unanimous decision.  Burton is currently ranked eighth place in both the IWBF and WIBA rankings.

Utica resident Jason Bouvouso (5-2), disappointed the local crowd with a less than spectacular performance.  His opponent Hector Alejandro Jr. (3-1) of Buffalo, NY dominated the fight and frustrated Bouvouso.  Bouvouso showed this frustration in the second round when he punched Alejandro well after the bell and a point was taken away from Bouvouso for his actions.  This point did not matter as Bouvouso was knocked out in the third round of the scheduled 4 round event.  Alejandro sat with me after the fight and was excited about his win.  After calling his family in Puerto Rico to give them the good news, he told me that he was well prepared for this fight and that his recent training and sparring with boxers in Buffalo prepared him for Bouvouso.

In a lackluster fight, Robert “Push Up” Frazier (28-5-2, 14 KOs) of Rochester, NY defeated Quandray Robertson (13-6) of Portland, OR by majority decision.  This was a slow fight that where no boxer ever took charge.

In the main event, Lightweight Angel “Got Jesus” Manfredy (42-6-1, 30 KOs) of Hobart, Indiana easily defeated John Bailey (21-11-2, 13 KOs) of New Cumberland, West Virginia. Manfredy dominated the fight sending Bailey to the canvas four times in the fight; two times in the second round, once in the fifth and for a final time in the seventh round. Manfredy used everything in his arsenal hitting Bailey at will with punches to the head and body.  Several of his body shots were so devastating that they sent Bailey to the canvas.  The fight was stopped at 1:01 in the seventh after a barrage of punches that sent Bailey to the canvas for the final time.  After the fight promoter Mike Acri mentioned that Manfredy would be fighting for a title fight later this fall.
